To Hire or Not To Hire?

Did you know that hiring a bookkeeper is A LOT cheaper and easier

… than trying to DIY your finances and dealing with late tax penalties? 🤔

We know – it’s not exactly an unbiased claim 😜 but we can prove it, we promise.

Just for example purposes, let’s look at two business owners this week to compare.

So, let’s say that both business owners are florists and they both had revenue of $200k in their stores last year.

We’ll call the first florist Herb; and the second florist, we’ll call her Rose.

Now, Herb did NOT hire a bookkeeper last year.

After he got a quote from a bookkeeper for $250/month (that’s $3,000 per year!), he said, “You know what – I’ll just DIY it and save myself $250 bucks a month – it shouldn’t be that hard, right?”

But he never seemed to find the time to keep up with it all.  And suddenly it was March 31st, and he hadn’t opened QuickBooks since Thanksgiving weekend.

So, he tried to scramble and catch up.

🔒 He closed his store for 2 days to try to catch up his finances (losing about $1,500 of walk-in traffic)

⏰ He forgot to file an extension, and paid his taxes 3 months late, which turned into $1,200 in interest and late fees

🤦🏻‍♀️ And then AFTER filing, he realized he had forgotten to include $900 worth of reimbursable business expenses that he had paid for with his personal credit card

Altogether, his decision to not hire a bookkeeper cost him $3,600 – $600 more than the bookkeeper would have cost.  Not to mention all the hours lost and the stress he went through trying to DIY it.

It doesn’t seem like Herb is out of the weeds, does it?

However, on the other hand…

Rose DID hire a bookkeeper last year for $250/month.

And when tax season in 2022 rolled around:

🤓 She knew exactly where her finances were without having to open QuickBooks even once.

🤓 Her finances were clean and tax-ready by February – so she decided to file her taxes early.

🤓 And all of her reimbursable expenses were included, which lowered the payment she owed this year.

Not to mention that her bookkeeper also:

⏰ Saved her hours of lost billable time (increasing her revenue)

🧘🏻‍♀️ Reduced her stress levels and weekend work hours

💰 And helped her improve her business’ profit margin, too.

And what did all that financial peace and goodness cost?

𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 $𝟮𝟱𝟬 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

(Which, put into context, sounds like a downright steal now, doesn’t it?)

So – the moral of the story here is easy:

As we end this tax season and start the next one.

Don’t be like Herb – who ended up paying 20% MORE with WAY more stress.
